I feel like I say this every time, but it’s because I mean it: Anniversary sessions NEED TO BE A THING! These are absolutely some of my favorite sessions to capture. There’s just something so real and sweet about capturing couples after all the magic of engagements and weddings have worn off. If the last time you had photos taken with your spouse was at your wedding, consider a photo shoot for your next anniversary! As wonderful as your wedding day was, it’s fun to see your love grow year after year and have something more recent and tangible to look back at on those days when those butterflies may not be as strong.

Ok getting off that tangent now…

I Insta-met Emily back in the fall through a creative group we are both a part of! Emily is a talented calligrapher and stationery designer, and if you don’t follow her already, you need to! After talking about getting coffee for months and always having travel conflicts, go figure that it would take a session for us to finally meet in real life!

Recent transplants from Atlanta to Chicago, Emily and Austin just celebrated the 6 year anniversary from their first date and are coming up on their first wedding anniversary. What better way to commemorate both special things than a photo shoot in your new home?! They wanted the session to truly capture Chicago, so we headed to the river! Surrounded by iconic Chicago buildings and the bustle of city life, we had perfect backdrops to play with!

In true Chicago style, this late May day felt more like a dreary November day. But with enough hugs and cuddles, you can start to forget about that 😉 Emily and Austin were the absolute sweetest, and an hour was not nearly enough time to have them in front of my camera (they may disagree!). It was such a joy for me to see them interact and watch how they make each other smile and laugh.

I loved the outfits these two picked for their session. Neutral color palettes like this look SO incredibly classy against the Chicago skyline. Winter engagement clients, take note! Overcoats like Austin’s and wraps like Emily’s are the PERFECT way to stay warm while looking sleek and stylish.
