Winter Couples Photos in Virginia

Anniversaries

Can anniversary sessions be the new engagement session? I LOVE anniversary sessions. If the last time you had professional photos taken with your spouse was at your wedding, you’re doing it all wrong! I truly believe that you should invest in a photo shoot every year together to help keep that spark alive πŸ˜‰ It’s so inspiring to see yourselves grow as a couple and watch your relationship deepen, yet at the same time be transported back to the butterfly-like excitement you felt when you were engaged. At every anniversary shoot I do, someone makes a comment that it felt like their engagement session. And, to me, that’s so wonderful. There’s nothing else that could transport you so easily back to that time of your life.

Ok, getting off my soapbox πŸ™‚

Over the holidays I had the pleasure of photographing 2 anniversary sessions for my cousins. One of the fun things about growing up in a large family is it just keeps getting larger as we welcome spouses into the family! Lauren and Megan chose some great guys to spend their lives with – they fit right into all of our craziness!

So without further ado, here’s a few highlights from each of their sessions!

Lauren & Jonathan

For Lauren and Jonathan’s session, we went to explore an area I haven’t been to in years – the Historic Hampton District. This little stretch is filled with adorable brick streets and quaint architecture. I loved getting reacquainted with this area and capturing some of its charm.

Lauren and Jonathan are about to celebrate their 2nd anniversary, and boy does it look good on them! I love how much fun these two have together and they way they make each other laugh. Those genuine smiles and reactions are what I crave as a photographer!

And can we talk about Lauren’s dress for a second? I’m obsessed with maxi dresses and this one is pure perfection, especially for cold-weather sessions. The flowy fabric, the long sleeves, the floral print…the camera loves stuff like that and so do I!

Lauren and Jonathan it was so much fun to spend the afternoon with you! Thanks for braving the cold and looking so good while doing it πŸ™‚

Love you!!

Megan & Jeremy

Megan and Jeremy’s session took place on the COLDEST day I think I’ve ever experienced in Virginia. It was about 18 degrees and windy. Fairly commonplace in Chicago, but extremely rare in Poquoson.Β Thankfully, though, it was sunny! That somehow makes it feel a little better πŸ˜‰ We did take a couple of breaks in the car to let our fingers and ears defrost, before continuing the session.

The session took place at a lovely little hidden gem in Poquoson called Heidi’s Point, which is a narrow, tree-lined path leading to the water. I’m such a sucker for winter light and dead trees – I will take a bare tree over a green one ANY DAY. I mean just look at the lovely neutrals it creates! I loved the way the sun glowed through the branches during this session, creating a truly magical feel. (By the way, photographers, this session took place at high noon. Yup. Magic can still happen then!).

Megan and Jeremy are always so fun to have in front of the camera and they were troopers during less-than-ideal weather conditions. These two have had quite the adventure during their first 3 years of marriage and are adopting baby number 2 in a few short months! It was such a joy to capture a few kid-less photos of them. I hope they will serve as a reminder of the love that brought them together as their family continues to grow!

Love you guys!
