Boulder Valley Ranch Engagement | Karen & James

If you know me at all, you know that, second only to France, the mountains are the other place that make me feel alive. Having lived in Colorado for a stint, I definitely think I left part of my heart there, because my soul just sings whenever I return. So when I connected with Karen & James for their Boulder engagement session, I was basically all butterflies.

Karen and James are the type of couple that you can’t stop smiling around. The way these two make each other smile and laugh is absolutely infectious and I enjoyed every second of documenting their love.

We chose Boulder Valley Ranch as the location for the session. Not only is it stunning, but it’s a spot they frequent for runs, making it extra meaningful. In fact, James had considered proposing to Karen in this spot! He opted to propose in Morocco instead- and as much as I love the mountains, I don’t think he could have chosen a more amazing place to pop the question 🙂

We had a cloudless, sun-filled evening giving us the most glowy, golden light imaginable. The way it danced across the tall grass and the little pond gave us some absolutely dreamy colors!

Pro Tip: Get your hair and makeup done!

As a side note to clients, if you’re considering professional hair and makeup for an engagement session, do it! Karen’s hair and makeup looked incredible from start to finish, even on a hot day and after running back and forth through a field! Professional hair and makeup photographs beautifully and will give you that extra element of confidence during your session!

Karen’s textured updo was the perfect mix of elegant and effortless and looked lovely with her patterned dress and James’s sophisticated look. I LOVE when couples pair a more dressy look with a rustic location. It’s such a fun mesh of styles and makes both elements really pop.

From dancing to running (and almost falling!), Karen and James were total naturals and (whether this is true or not) looked like they were having the best time in front of the camera!
